The Mad Mage Speaks

Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much.

What follows is a script I've been working off/on. Primarily I started it as a potential comic to maybe commission =temiel one day. But the main idea of it was to write a script for a comic I wouldn't be drawing. Here is a roughish draft of the first five pages, for your perusal.

Because I like to share.

Giant Comic Script

Plot Outline: A Mother-to-Be struggles to find safety in a world that has been ravaged by the Giants of Old, who have awakened to take vengeance on Humanity.

A Mother-to-be is traveling in a post-apocalyptic world. She is confronted by various gigantic objects and things throughout a small town. At the last bit, she finds signs of other Survivors.
9 page comic?

Theme Overview
This tale is set in the Dakotas/Montana region of the Great Plains, in the summer. Mankind has been ravaged and nearly wiped out by the return of Giants. The old kind, like the ones the Norse and the Bible warned us about. The Nephillim, the Jotun, the Gigantes, the Daityas, etc. Along with them come a nasty ecology of gigantic animals, bred by the giants as servants. This story won't explain how or why, but they are here and they now rule the planet. Man is endangered species.

Our main character has been traveling by herself for over a month. She is probably 25, 26 weeks pregnant. All she knows is that rumors have spoken of some hidden mountain communities in Montana. She hopes to make it in one piece, to have her baby. She also hopes that she isn't the last of her species.

Think of this as a alternate future, a sort of Forbidden Time Yet To Come. Or something. Maybe I'll come up with a better name. Forbidden Future?

PAGE ONE
A Mother-to-be wanders alone on a blasted highway in the hot summer of the Dakotas.

PANEL ONE
Description: From far-away, one can see the tiny figure of a woman walking down the highway, walking stick in one hand. The landscape around her is blasted and ruined, burning hot in the summer heat from the sun above. She carries a single satchel, and she clearly looks pregnant, toward the middle of her term.

NARRATING JOURNAL
Day 45.

PANEL TWO
Description: A front view of her walking past a ruined sports car. She wears ragged clothing, her walking stick revealed to be a piece of thin, aluminum pipe; it has been burnt black. Her hair is red and covered by a veil that helps keep the sun out of her eyes. She looks tired and worried.

MOTHER-TO-BE
This is getting harder.

PANEL THREE
Description: She looks upward at something off panel.

PANEL FOUR
Description: A battered, ruined green road sign: Sentinel Butte 5 miles, Glendive 27 miles, Miles City 74 miles

NARRATING JOURNAL
I'm getting closer to Montana.

PANEL FIVE
Description: She grits her teeth and moves onward...

NARRATING JOURNAL
I hope to find some people who haven't died.

PAGE TWO
She sets up camp outside of the ruins of a small town.

PANEL ONE
Description: It is night on the prairie. A rusty sign sits in the foreground. Some distance away we can see a camp fire going, with our mother-to-be sitting next to it cooking something on a stick. Farther away, one can see the moon in the sky, rising above the ruins of a small town much further away.

NARRATING JOURNAL
I'm closing in on Sentinel Butte.

PANEL TWO
Description: Focus on the moon in a smaller panel. The face of the Moon is different, streaked with lines and webs as if made by some giant lunar spider.

PANEL THREE
Description: The Mother-to-be gazes up to the moon, the fire crackling beside her.

PANEL FOUR
Description: She closes her eyes.

PANEL FIVE
Description: She puts one hand gently on her belly.

MOTHER-TO-BE
This place feels sad.

PANEL SIX
Description: Her eyes suddenly snap open in fear.

GIANT WOLF (unseen)
Grrr...

PAGE THREE
Massive wolves surround her and her small camp.

PANEL ONE
Description: This should be the largest panel on the page. A pack of three giant wolves stare down at our Mother-to-be. Each of these wolves are the size of elephants with glowing...

Body.

In Nevenian Alchemy and Enchantment, the greek letter Lambda, λ, is used to represent the Body element.
Often called the 7th Element, the element of Body pertains to all forms of flesh, bone, wood or shell. It represents the organic component of life that walks in the physical and mortal realms, but lacks a presence in the Astral or Spirit realms. It is one of the three 'living' elements, along with the elements of Mind and Soul.
Magi of the Druia and Tao-weh schools use it as the focus of their magicks. Perhaps the most powerful practitioners are the theriomorphs, who use Body in connection with the element of Soul and the Might Force to change their shape and form. Theriomorphs range from the werebeasts of Europe to the skinwalkers of North America.
The Force of Death cancels and counters almost all Body magicks, while the force of Might can reinforce it with ease. The sign of Jupiter Saturn is the its astrological correspondence.
Spirits, Kami and most Jinn fear the Element of Body, for they have no means to counter it or its form of spells.

Those who serve the House of Draco, in service of the Order of the Neven, use the Element of Body in all their magick. Their symbol and common name is the Dragon.

So, I've got nothing important to report. Nothin serious, nothin' silly.

I am getting a little mystical in my thinking, but I think thats a purview of being a storyteller and artist. A shaman of the modern world.

Ahem.

I better get back to drawing and writing I suppose.

Whats up with you?

So anyway, the other day I posted a poll on whether or not doing commissions would roll right with my watchers. I guess the general direction was toward offering something rather than nothing. Me, I'm not so sure as to commissions, because I really haven't done any research as to how to set such silly things up. I suspect I'll read over the commission rules for various peeples and see what exactly it entails.

Also, I'm enjoying my work on Se7en Sinners, even if I feel some of my panels and art aren't perfect... yet. But hey, part of the reason I like to draw comics is that it is great practice for getting various pieces and parts of your skill set honed.

In fact, I find myself writing comic scripts again. Usually a good sign I'm planning ahead instead of just making stuff up as a I go.

Oh. And Happy March Madness! (I know of no real import to this date, except perhaps that in 1924 the Caliphate was abolished when the Ottoman empire finally collasped.)

The month named after Mars has to be a hoot... Although, anyone named Julius probably shouldn't go out during the ides of March.

Just warnin' yah.

Its a been awhile since I've done any sort of ranting on this journal. Hmm.

Freedom of Speech is the first and foremost thing that Western Civilization depends upon. It encourages intellectual honesty. Hell, its a sign of civilization. Censorship isn't a good thing, because it doesn't encourage honesty. And, it doesn't stop at a corporate or government level, kids. People who prevent freedom of speech, and can't accept what others have to say... well, clearly they fear honesty.

I've run into a few deviants on dA who, for some absurd reason, don't allow comments. That ain't right. Its cowardly. I've always allowed comments, and when I have an premium account, I always allow for critiques. And so far, I plan to never refuse a critique.

For Abaddon's sake, I had a guy send a critique that was kinda rude and wasn't very 'constructive'. But you know what? I put up with it. Freedom of speech. I never purposefully censor anyone, unless its myself. Even then, its a correction or its meant to clarify others.

No subject should be immune from criticism, review or comment. That goes for art too.

Ok. I just managed to get another page of Se7en Sinners done.

Yays for me!

Anyway, I decided to do some sort of meme-y thing.

And it has to be meme-y, doesn't it? I mean, thats what these tag-and-post-in-your-journal memes are like, aren't they?

So. What to do...

What to do...

Oh I know!

Hey, I do this:

Critique something of mine, and I'll critique something of yours back. And if you don't got the premium account, fine. Just write some some comment thats really long and looks an awful lot like a critique.

And I'll try to reply in kind. One critique per deviant.

May take two to three days for me to respond.

Sighter.

I have been posting on this journal a lot lately on my previous works, and even on inspirations dealing with it. But most of these works have been my comics, mainly a visual art form of storytelling. I guess this entry is about my writing.

I've been writing stuff since I first learned how to read. Its been an off and on habit. I've found it hard to keep a journal... but keeping a series of ideas on various settings and characters in my head. I'll break my dA writing projects in their three big categories: The Secret Histories, Eating Faeries and Passage on the Nyx.

Today I'll just focus on the Passage on the Nyx, a Novel I'm currently writing and posting on dA. I just posted Chapter 17 today, in fact.

Passage on the Nyx is a novel of the Last Renaissance, the last great era of Humanity. It tells how a young man, Benjamin Savka, meets a strange girl during a brief visit on Mars. The two of them are tied to a historic new moment in human history... and both of them are considered to be less than pure human by the governments of the world, the Old Nations.

Its my second novel. And this has been my third attempt to get Nyx finished. The last time I worked on it was back in 2007/8. Its been long in coming. I post unedited rough drafts of the novel on dA to get feedback and advice I plan to use when I go back to edit the novel.

So. To the point.

If you haven't been reading it, please give it a try. If you have, please comment! I want all the input I can get!

"And lo, did the Sighter speak unto the people: I'm back!"

So I decided to post a journal... on my creativeness. My subscription needed renewal, and I had to wait for my next paycheck to come it to pay for it.

One of those 'adult decision' thingies people tell me about. Oh well. I, being me, decided to not post a journal until afterward. 'Cuz I like my journal skin a little too much.

Passage on the Nyx
I'm working on the next chapter. I've gotten 760 words written, and I hope to get the second half of the chapter finished sometime in the next day or two.

Se7en Sinners
Also half done. My comic muscles are a bit out of whack, so I'm going to try to double my efforts to get Seven Sinners to a regular schedule... of some kind. I hope. I'm working on some sort of byline or description for it as well.

Other Ideas
Lastly, I've got some miscellaneous projects going around in my head and on my laptop as well. For instance, I've been hoping backward onto this one project for =temiel, a script for a potential comic one day. No comic actually occurring, mind you, its more of a writing challenge I see for myself.

I also have been considering doing some sort of appendix-like comic strip for Nyx. That idea hasn't completely solidified, though.

And I still have my occasional digital paint thingy.

Yep. That's about it. I'm still not getting paid for all this rampant creativity. Oh well. Its fun either way.

Hows your week been going, btw?

Courage is a trait I wish I had in more abundance. I tend to lack it, where it counts. I post my best of best art and hesitate to submit some stuff out of fear. So thanks for everyone who responded to the last journal entry. Kinda forced me to relook at the art in the page I've been working on.

I can be Mad, but can't I just share?

So my courage comes from my 'friends' on dA, although I feel some sort of other term is needed... colleague? Colleague sounds good. I'm goin' hit up the ol' Colleague tree again. I'm reminiscencing... but this time, its about good ol' times...

So prepare to have flair thrown in your hair! One of the cruelest Muses I've ever known, Comrade Senorita (that's her real super-secret name too!) back in 06 and 07 bounced ideas off me. And I reciprocated.

Kinda like finding a nice wall for that one bouncy ball you always wanted to toss around. Plus, she's a photographer... in a artsy way.
